Our Approach
create an offering that everyone can be proud of
From employees, to guests, to community leaders, we want our concepts to be something special. Starting with a quality food and drink menu tailored to the location, we strive to create items that people look forward to enjoying frequently. Much of the menu is created in our own kitchens and developed by our own team.
We also design each space to have a high level of polish, creativity, and energy. Realizing that much of a concept’s energy comes from its bar area, we work to make that the focal point and design out. This creates a fun, open environment that everyone can enjoy, individual adults and families alike.
We realize that to be a part that neighborhood spot, we need to be a part of the neighborhood. This means active participation in community organizations, fundraising events such as guest bartender nights and first responder wing eating championships. We approach all of this with an authenticity consistent with our brands.
Build and Cultivate a Strong Team
No employee manual can capture all that goes into a brand. We look for people with good heads and good hearts. Team members learn the brand over time, seeing how everyone handles different situations. Because of this, we feel that the long-term success of our brands is dependant on employee longevity. This means managers that used to be servers, chefs that used to be line cooks, administrative staff that used to be hosts. Managers are encouraged to look internally first for openings. Through our growth, we are able to continue to offer growth opportunities to members of our team who know the brand the best.
For our managers, we recognized that success comes from not just knowing the nuts and bolts of a place but also developing leadership skills. Working with the University of Delaware, we created a special manager training course titled “Leading the 3rd Place.” This six-week course provides managers with important skills such as conflict resolution and delegation.
Getting Better Everyday
Success is a battle best fought every day. Our teams are encouraged to make decisions quickly so that we can advance. As we learn from these decisions, we can all learn how to improve. By giving them the tools and support to make these decisions quickly, we get better faster.
